Vision Credit to Provide Free Credit Scores

February 7th, 2008 by Kenneth Long

In cooperation with Fiscal Progress and Freddie Mac, Vision Credit Education will be providing free credit reports, including free scores to prospective first-time homeowners. You may get free Experian and TransUnion credit reports to evaluate your creditworthiness.

This presents an initial step to evaluate your credit and determine your eligibility for homeownership. Certified Housing Counselors at Fiscal Progress can review your credit report with you and answer questions.

Credit Improvement

Understanding what is on your credit report can help you develop a plan for attack. You might find that there are some outstanding debts that need to be repaid or otherwise handled. Perhaps inaccurate information appears on your report. Such items could be eligible for deletion by disputing individual items with your credit bureaus.

Homeownership Evaluation

In addition to helping you improve your credit, you can also review various housing scenarios. By reviewing your budget and liabilities, a Certified Housing Counselor can help you determine how high of a mortgage payment you can make each month.

You can also find out more about potential interest rates you may qualify for, as well as what you can do to improve your qualifications. Depending on where you want to live, you may even have government supported down payment assistance available.

Those receiving such down payment assistance routinely receive around $20,000 in assistance. Such assistance is primarily received through below market fixed rates. Some programs also provide match savings grant opportunities.

If you would like to inquire about obtaining your free credit report and score, contact Vision Credit today.
