Vision Credit Education, Inc.

Your Nonprofit Credit Counseling Organization

Our History

Vision Credit Education, Inc. was formed in 2004 as a nonprofit community organization based in Chapel Hill, NC. Vision Credit was established to enable consumers to improve their financial well-being.

Applying for tax-exempt status was a necessary milestone in order to be eligible for most grant funding. On December 6, 2006, the IRS granted tax-exempt status to Vision Credit, recognizing it as an approved nonprofit charity. The effective date of the exemption was March 29, 2005.

Vision Credit was one of only a handful of newly approved tax-exempt credit counseling organizations under new stricter guidelines. It is a true testament to the dedication and vision of our founders.

Since then, Vision Credit has expanded its public seminars to include multiple financial topics. We have also enhanced our community education with new initiatives to include online dissemination of educational content. Our 1:1 counseling is more effective now due to our educational curricula and supplemental educational releases.

Moving forward, Vision Credit will continue to reassess our programs to ensure that we are delivering the highest quality of financial literacy available as a free service. The cost of our tax-exemption is that we must provide substantial public benefit. Therefore, we will diligently provide the necessary education to pick up where our government and schools failed to educate.

Financial literacy was a forgotten need. Most people learned about credit usage and debt traps through the School of Hard Knocks, not through public schools or even colleges and universities.

That has been our commitment—to improve financial literacy and enable families to improve their financial situation. We will continue to focus resources to help families break the cycle of debt and build wealth for a sound financial future.
