Establish Credit

If you are considering a major purchase on credit, you will want to show a history of properly managing your credit accounts. You may ask, how can I get credit if I need credit to get it? This is a common question, and the source of much inaccurate information.

You do not need credit to open your first credit account. You simply need to meet their acceptance criteria.

The credit counselors at Vision Credit can help you understand what types of credit are needed to establish and build your credit history. We can discuss what types of qualifications you might need for certain credit accounts.

Perhaps you were turned down for credit in the past. We can show you why, and what you can do to improve your chances. Feel free to contact us with a question, or to set up an appointment to review your credit needs. Also, you may follow Fair Isaac spokesperson Craig Watts’ advice on establishing credit:

Start out small. Go to the bank that has your checking account and ask for a small loan. Pay it back on time. Try to get a gasoline or department store card. Then, go for general purpose credit cards.
