Your FICO score is used by lenders to make decisions about whether to extend you credit and at what terms. While you can always buy your credit score, what you are getting may not be the same FICO score used by lenders. With tighter credit, those who have little income and poor credit scores have been shut out of most lending opportunities. We would expect that the higher income households would fare much better and they have, but not that much better. Major credit card companies have begun lowering credit limits for many of their cardholders as a way to reduce their exposure to potential losses. Many credit card issuers have begun raising interest rates on cardholders that have never been late. In fact, many cardholders claim to have good credit, yet still are facing what they deem unwarranted increases in their interest rates.
